Finally in Toronto! The Teenburger Squad!
I just spent the last week out on the East Coast with the Teenburger bad boys, having a time, and I highly recommend you come to Rancho this Wednesday and get a taste of the deliciousness. This album is going to be legendary, and you’re going to want to be able to look back and say you were at the first ever Toronto Teenburger show. Come smell the sizzle.

WHO IS TEENBURGER?
Teenburger came together in 1981 as a hardcore punk band. In 1981 Jo Serra (DJ Jorun Bombay) had the idea to start a hardcore punk band and approached Tim Wallace (Timbuktu), Darren Pyper (Ghettosocks), and Kate Schellenbach and asked them to join him. The name Teenburger came from a suggestion from drummer Kate Schellenbach. The initials TB were used due to the bands love for the UK hardcore band, The Beatles. The name “Burger” stands for “Boys Undergoing Rigorous Genius Exposés Regularily,” but this was an afterthought once the band’s name was already Teenburger, according to Ghettosocks and Timbuktu. Their first gig was at John Berry’s house on Adam Yauch’s 17th birthday. Since that gig, the quartet have been assigned aliases within the group: Timbuktu is Clay Hamilton, Ghettosocks is Cappello Feldman, Jorun is Ron Pompei, and is Kate Schellenbach is Lisa.
Clay Hamilton a.k.a. Stashius Clay (Timbuktu) is a senior who appears to have it made. He is looking forward to summer vacation and almost has his car paid off. He is popular, in large part because of his part-time job at a burger joint where his girlfriend, Lisa (Kate Schellenbach), also works. Clay is obsessing about how to end his long-time relationship with Lisa so he can play the field during his senior year. However, he is fired from the burger joint for insulting a customer, and when he tries to tell Lisa how much he needs her at a school rally before a big football game, Lisa tells Clay that she is dumping him to see other guys. Clay quits his next job because of the humiliation of having to wear a pirate costume when delivering food. He gets a third job at a convenience store, where he successfully thwarts an attempted robbery and is promoted to store manager.
As the album begins, high school senior Cappello Feldman (Ghettosocks) fights a bout of depression by deciding to face his problems and attend the last day of school on a nice spring day. He encourages his pessimistic best friends, Clay (Timbuktu) and Ron (Jorun Bombay), to do the same so that they can fully appreciate the upcoming summer break. Capello persuades Ron to let them use his father’s VW to travel to school, and eventually around town. The rest of the school and many residents learn of Capello’s depression and offer donations to help “Save Capello.”
Ron Pompei (Jorun Bombay) is a social outcast and habitual marijuana user in Lisa’s American history class. The strict teacher, Mrs. Chung, has no patience with Pompei’s carefree attitude and especially not with Pompei’s wasting of class time. Finally, on the evening of the graduation dance, Mrs. Chung shows up at Pompei’s house and informs him that since he has wasted eight hours of class time over the past year, Mrs. Chung intends to make up for that time now. They proceed to have a one-on-one tutoring session that lasts until Mrs. Chung is satisfied that Pompei has understood the lesson. Outside of class, Pompei wrecks a car belonging to the highschool’s star football player Jeff Charleston (El Da Sensei). To avoid being beaten up, Pompei puts the car on the highschool’s front lawn and paints the car with slurs supposedly written by a rival high school, Lincoln. An epilogue reveals that Pompei saves Brooke Shields from drowning and then blows the reward money hiring LL Cool J to play at his birthday party. Mrs. Chung is left to believe everyone is on dope.
Lisa (Kate Schellenbach) is worried that she’s not attractive or experienced enough to meet let alone keep any guys. While working at the mall she meets a 26-year-old stereo salesman who asks her out. She sneaks out to meet him and they have sex at a local make-out place. She reveals the loss of her virginity to Linda who assures her that it will hurt less as she does it more.

In the very exciting news department, The new D-Sisive album “Vaudeville” is out this week and not only was it produced entirely by my good buddy Fresh Kils, but I also got to throw down cuts for a couple of tracks. Kind of a proud moment. Back in the year 2000, when I was in my teens and probably still enrolled in High School, I bought D’s single “Popped” produced by DJ Serious, and I even had a battle routine with the record. 10 years later and I get to do cuts on his new album. Rap life!

Do yourself and the world a favour and go grab a copy of Vaudville at HMV or iTunes or wherever the hell you get your musics.

TWM: Jesse Dangerously, BRZOWSKI, H.W., Toolshed

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Toronto stop for the 1000 Crooked Mile tour! The tour features a couple stellar Canadian hip-hop acts (Toolshed and Jesse Dangerously) and two American acts (Brzowski & H.W.).
The Toronto date is Monday May 24th at the Rancho Relaxo. Cover is only $6.
Brzowski is from Portland, a hot bed for all things awesome when it comes to music. Here’s a snippet from the awesome bio on Brzowski’s myspace that I suggest you all read:
“BRZOWSKI is set to unleash his magnum opus, “A Fitful Sleep” in 2010, a labor of love and blood that has spanned a full 4 years in the construction. Racking up compilation and guest spots on labels spanning the western hemisphere, all while scrambling to continue a hectic touring schedule, BRZOWSKI lends credence the axiom that to achieve any modicum of notoriety, you must suffer for your art.”
Also on the bill is H.W. from Boston. H.W. is newer to the hip-hop scene but has been going very strong over the last few years building a name, a reputation and a following. H.W. will get the night off to a jumpin’ start and things will be rolling from there.
The night also features Jesse Dangerously (Halifax). Part of the Backburner crew, Jesse D is known for his wicked rhymes and ridiculously speedy delivery. After a run at SXSW, and with a bunch of big things on the horizon Jesse D makes a stop in Toronto. He isn’t around all that often, so make a point of getting out!
And less we forget the always awesome Toolshed! Rancho has been lucky to have Toolshed around so often that even though its been a few months it feels like years. When it comes to local Toronto hip-hop nobody puts on a better liveshow than Toolshed. And no Toolshed show is quite like a Rancho one.
That’s it, that’s all. 6 bucks, support touring hip-hop, alright?

MAGNOLIUS presents “THE LIGHTTRAILS TOUR” in TORONTO

The MAGNOLIUS Machine Factory & PPF HOUSE present: THE LIGHTTRAILS TOUR
MAGNOLIUS wraps up the “LIGHTTRAILS TOUR” in Toronto at Rancho Relaxo Friday April 2nd. Accompanied by Fresh Kils and DJ iRATE, the duo is brewing up something special for their hometown audience before leaving on their massive US/CANADIAN TOUR in spring.
""The chemistry between the duo, Shan Vincent de Paul & Derek DaCosta… well if you could bottle it, you could sell it back to N-Power and make some tidy wedge. It’s angry and aware, yet sharp and has sense of humor" – WHISPERS Mag (UK)
“best of all is their successful spanning of that sometimes-massive space existing between the disparate sides of tradition and experimentation within hip-hop, moving from one to the other with casual ease.” – EXCLAIM! (Toronto)
Also performing:
FRESH KILS & DJiRATE
A match made in b-boy heaven. With Fresh Kils on the MPC and DJiRATE
on the decks, expect nothing less than masterfully crafted instrumental set. The duo will be joining the MAG on stage performing unreleased tracks and exclusive remixes.
PERILELLE
Windsor-Detroit’s finest trip hop artist with an unforgettable silvery voice. Expect to hear new songs from her upcoming album, set to be released through Detroit’s Exchange Bureau Music sometime this year.
LEE REED
Best known as the incendiary mouthpiece for the legendary Warsawpack, Lee Reed is no newcomer to the Canadian indie music scene. From 1999-2010, his band packed clubs from coast to coast – soaking in media spotlight, critical acclaim and beer tickets.

Alright, it’s been a while since I updated this mother, to the point where some turd’s making demands on my guestbook. So here’s a bit of a recap of things that’s been going down.
The weekend of Halloween I played two shows on the Friday night, on the same street. Yeah. Just walked from one to the other. It was a wild good time.
First one was The Job CD release party at Graffiti’s in Kensington Market.

Kils and I backed the beasts from the Toolshed and had a ball. In full costume…

That’s right. We were the Cobra Kai Skeletons.
Next show was the Banger’s n Mash: Halloween Edition just down the street at Rear View Mirror.

Kils and I backed the super talented Brandon Dramatic and had a great time. Big shout out to my favorite drum and bass all-star Mutt . Man’s a killer.

In other super exciting news….
By now you are all familiar with Ghettosocks new album TREAT OF THE DAY . If you’re not (shame on you), here’s a track from the album featuring some Canadian heavy hitting monsters and cuts provided by yours truly.
Also in the super exciting category…
My homeboys Socks and Timbuktu make a monstrous appearance on El Da Sensei & The Returners new project the “Money EP” (2009). Check it out!
More news to come. Lots of shows in the works. Stay tuned.

BRAND NEW SHOW- BRAND NEW CD- “TREAT OF THE DAY”
I’m very excited for this one. I was lucky enough to be around to see some of the album come together, and I was also lucky enough to be able to throw down some scratches for it. The album is a beast. Highly recommended. Love to see you at the show, if you can’t make it, you better cop TREAT OF THE DAY and do your homework.

Check it out! Some wings I made the other night are featured on the All Spice Cafe Gourmet Hot Sauces website!

http://www.allspicecafe.com/news/category/where-in-the-world/
All Spice Cafe makes some excellent sauces (I recommend the Cayenne Habanero) and they are very tasty on wings.
Definitely check out their site:
And definitely become a facebook fan:

>>> Featuring Nunca (Sao Paulo) Roadsworth (Montreal) and over 50 emerging artists. Opening Sept. 18th — Exhibition to close on Nuit Blanche, Oct. 3rd. <<<
Sneaking into and funking up the cultural heart of Toronto, Manifesto Festival of Culture and Community has been toiling away in preparation for a three floor exhibition that will literally spill out the door, into the street and on to the walls of 52 McCaul St. The exhibition will include a work residency by Nunca from Brazil (Sept. 18-28.) Hailing from Sao Paulo, Nunca recently headlined the blockbuster ‘Street Art’ at the Tate Modern (London, UK.) Matching top international talent the best Montreal has to offer, Nunca will be joined by the infamous street artist Roadsworth — the subject of a recent NFB documentary (screening at the Drake Hotel, 4:30pm Sept 18th.)
Inside the building, Floor 1 will be the ‘Rise Art Auction for Youthlink,’ presented by Well and Good with 100% of proceeds going to a charity devoted to underserved youth in Toronto. The Rise Auction will wind up on Nuit Blanche. Floor 2, ‘The Studio’ managed/curated by Joshua Brandt of Whippersnapper Gallery will consist of work residencies by several local and national artists who will turn the space into a constantly evolving group work. Devon Ostrom, Visual Arts Director of Manifesto says that, “the value of festivals in the development of Canadian art is that they bring a diversity of artists together to learn from each other, exchange skills and build networks. The idea of floor 2, The Studio is to extend this into a month long process – and one that the public can watch unfold.“
Floor 3, supporting the development of emerging curators; Charlie Irani and Teresa Aversa of Charlie’s Gallery will transform the space with a world of installations created specifically for the show.
Check out the constantly evolving photo gallery of print quality / free use images at (active starting Sept 7th):

So, I’ve not been great about updating this page with anything other than upcoming events, and I’d like to try and improve on that. A buddy of mine runs this wicked blog TwistedSifter (which I highly recommend) and one of the greatest things about it is that he does certain updates on a weekly basis, like clock work. So taking a page from his blog, I’m going to try and post a Monday Media Mashup each week. And I’m already a day late… Mondays are usually pretty busy for me… Maybe this is a bad idea… Oh well… Let’s Go!
First off, here’s the long awaited, much anticipated, brand spanking new…

GHETTOSOCKS – TREAT OF THE DAY, Episode 1

More or Les is a monster on the mic, Kils is a beast on the MPC, and I do OK trying to keep up on the turntables. Wicked weekend hanging with wicked people… so many memories…

Got invited by the one and only DJ Grouch (Turnstylez, Toronto Turntablist Legend) to join his Sunday afternoon advanced scratch class and cut it up with him and his students. Had an awesome time and was blown away by the set up at Scratch Lab. Check it out at http://www.scratchlab.ca/

Then, from Scratch Lab, Kils and I headed to the Grand Analog Video Shoot and got our fake drunken house party on. Had an awesome time. Hopefully you’ll be able to catch our ugly mugs on Much Music sometime soon. The video should be amazing and the track slaughters. Stay tuned for more nuttiness.

Had a lovely time at the Silver Dollar Room on Thursday night. Much thanks to everyone that made it out, and for those who didn’t, we know you were there in spirit and we’ll catch you at the next one.
Big respect to all the cats from across the pond who came and did their thing. The sets were amazing, and they are all wicked people. Check ’em all out here.
Much love to all the Canadians that came out and did their thangs as well. Minderbender killed as usual, Fritz the Cat was beauty in motion (apart from spewing beer on my tables), Modulok and Vangel were lovely, and I’m officially a rabid Thesis Sahib fan. Sleep at your own peril. And stay tuned for more madness.

Been a while since I rocked a show out of a kitchen…
Good times. Thanks to everyone who came out. Things did not go as smoothly as they maybe could have, but that’s what happens when you do a show in a kitchen on a three-legged turntable.
Big shouts to Sawtay and Rhythmicru for throwing a good old fashioned mess of a loft party. Check out CR8APES.com and check the new Rhythmicru video!
Check the media section for some pics. And big show coming up this Saturday, stay tuned for details…
Oh! How could I forget… The Curveball highscore leaderboard is finally up! So get in there and smash some records! And DJiRATE.com is the only place on the internets with a working Curveball highscore board! What?!

First, let me start by saying, DJiRATE.com is © 1986-2009 Handsome B. If you want a site done slow, you know where to go!
A lot has happened since the teaser page came out in 2005. So, I’m still skratching… Fast forward – I’m the 2008 Ottawa DMC Champion and placed 3rd in the 2008 Canadian DMC Finals. Alright, to the news at hand. Hold on to your hats ‘cause I’m opening for NECRO tonight with my man Fresh Kils. If you don’t know, act like you know and check out http://www.myspace.com/freshkils . Dude is an MPC madman and together we form like voltron and bring mad pad mashin fader flickin delciousness. You’d be foolish to miss this show. Canadian Music Week what what! We stay naked for months.
